The Guard to the Subconscious
The Conscious Mind can be thought of as the guard to the Subconscious Mind. Only by using our conscious mind, in a specific way, can we change our beliefs and the outcome of our life.
Imagine there’s a garden. It’s the most beautiful garden you have ever seen. Every colour, every flavour, every tree, bush and fruit you could want. And you can’t get to it, because you are standing in front of a gate.
Somehow, you have to open the gate to get into this amazing wonderful garden. You can smell all the scented flowers and trees. Your taste buds are jumping from the smells and colours. The only thing you can’t do is touch any of it.
So, how do you open the gate?
Only you know. Because, only you can see and smell and taste those specific parts of your beautiful garden. You’re the only one with that specific image.
There are three elements which are the same for everyone that are needed to open that gate:
- Belief,
- Imagination, and
- Feeling.
That metaphorical gate is your Conscious mind.
The Characteristics of the Conscious Mind
Neville Goddard1 described the conscious mind as having the following characteristics:
- Personal and Selective – it is subjective, dependant on feelings and emotion,
- The realm of Effect – action and thought, and
- Generates Ideas.
It’s through the use of our conscious mind that we can impress ideas onto the subconscious mind.
We consciously make decisions about what we want in our life – friends, relationships, health, job, career, wealth and so on. These decisions can affect the path of our life and where we eventually end up.
Using our imagination consciously we see the world that we want to live in, the world we wish to create. There are times when we get lost into that ideal life in our imagination, feeling it so deeply that it feels real. That’s where we want to be constantly.
But then something happens. It’s as if we “wake up” and pull ourselves back to “reality”, the feeling of that dream, that ideal life, lost.
That’s because we don’t believe that we can have that life. We don’t believe that it’s possible for us, we believe that we don’t have the ability, the capability or the skills required to have that life. We might even say that it’s “impossible”.
Those beliefs that tell you that you can’t have that ideal life, are embedded into your subconscious mind. They were put there at an earlier age or by circumstances that you’ve experienced. It’s your responsibility to change those beliefs by using your conscious mind to change them. It takes conscious effort to make that change.
A belief cannot be destroyed or got rid of. It’s replaced by a better belief, a belief that serves you.
Replacing a Belief
Use your imagination to visualise and create the world that you do want, not the world that you don’t want. Keep building this image until every detail is specific. Where you want you can leave some creative licence to the universe to bring you something. But do so cautiously – the universe has a weird sense of humour. Otherwise be as specific as possible and as specific as you can.
For example, if you want a new house, detail each room, its contents, colours, the building material. Everything down to the toothbrush holder – you want to be that specific. What you are not too concerned about leave it down to universal creative licence.
Get to the point where you can feel the world you have created. Just like the garden we talked about at the beginning. You want to be able to smell, taste and feel all that you want, all that you have imagined and visualised. You want it to feel as natural as breathing.
From your mind, in your mind, you consciously act as if it is real, by living that life in your imagination.
Believe
If you lack belief at the beginning, it will build with time. Hold the image of your ideal life steady in your imagination. With a better understanding of how your mind and the universal laws work to your benefit, your belief will increase.
You always get back what you put into your imagination. So begin now to create that ideal life.
Write it all down in as much detail as you can. Even if you don’t believe it yet, write it down. You may be in a state of disbelief at the moment, but, eventually, you will believe that it is possible. It will be time well spent, as you’re beginning to decide and create the life you want.
Once you are done doing that, the next thing is to plan and act… with faith.
Action is proof that you have faith in yourself and the outcome. And, consequently, the universe, the powers that be, will respond in kind. They always do.
No problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it. – Albert Einstein
Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. – Matthew 7:7-8
